Trip To Boat Of Garten

My first full day here and although very cold and drizzling rain all day, one of the main reasons for my visit was to photograph Crested Tits, went to the car park at Loch Garten and set up a feeding station and within a few minutes we had two visiting and coming down every 20 minutes or so, very poor light but a good start to the trip and good views and at least record shots of these great little birds.

Last Post!!

At least until next week end, as off to the Boat Of Garten in the Cairngorm National Park tomorrow until Friday, so hope to have a good few photo's to share with you on my return. Had a really cold snap last night, then everything started to warm up to a glorious sunny calm day, strategic pruning done outside on the natural perches, feeders extended, a new floor area cleared and seeded for ground feeders, good numbers of all species present especially Redpoll and Goldfinch, joined by my first Greenfinch and Woodpecker seen in the trees from the dinning room window, but not yet down on the feeders, walked along the Reservoir and added Canada Geese, Graylag Geese, Moorhen and Coot to the species count, also had Cormorant fly over towards Macclesfield Forest and Canada Geese flying towards Redesmere Lake, the species count now up to a healthy 26.

Not Much To Report!!

Except for a few days away planned for next week in Scotland, not much to report at home, managed to get out in between showers to fill up the feeders and height alteration planned on both poles tomorrow, to encourage more species down, IE Woodpecker, only one entry into the charts and that was a Cormorant that flew over around 3-30pm heading towards Macclesfield Forest. hoping for some good photographic opportunities next week to include Crested Tits and Red squirrels.

The View Of Boars Leigh.

This is the front and side of the new property all backing onto the Bosley Reservoir Embankment now have around 60 foot to play around with, the side lounge windows and the rear Dining room window overlooking all of it. The Front has the sun all day, so will be dedicating this to encouraging Butterflies and will be planting appropriately. As it is a blank canvas at the moment, except for the established Magnolia Bush.

What A Difference A Day Makes!

7.45 am first look out of the window and how different two days can be, no wind, no rain but not one bird in sight, 8 am one Goldfinch on feeder with one loan Great Tit in the brambles and tipping down with rain, 8.30 am and wondering who has stolen all my birds, rain has stopped, blue skys and just one begraggled Dunnock in the brambles looking sorry for himself. Thankfully by mid-day the sun is shining and the birds are back, with Redpoll numbers up to 9, and new chart toppers for today being Mallard and Wood Pigeon bringing the count now upto 18. Disturbed the Buzzard on a short walk on the embankment and off he went perching in the field next door, need to investigate if this is one of his usual haunts, hope so!!

Sightings Now Up To 16!!

7.45am and already three Lesser Redpoll and Goldfinch feeding well with the bramble bush filling steadily with Blue and Great Tit, ready for their onslaught, one large new mover into the charts is a Common Buzzard who landed just behind my property in the small coppice, I am sure I have spotted Brambling on the bank with the Chaffinch but did not get a good enough view to be absolutely sure so will not add to count until I have. Now there are two poles holding feeders I have a good two dozen birds down at any one time with more still waiting in the wings, all species in good numbers except for the Coal Tit, have only seen one, not sure why. The photo's today were taken out of the open window of my new property next door, the window only being around 3 to 4 feet away from the back fence and the feeders, have the keys and new carpets being fitted on Tuesday and officially mine from the 8th, definitely my last move (have said that before!!) but at least this one has not been forced. So I will be able to sit in my armchair and watch my own feeders and also the back Dining Room window opens out onto the embankment, so none of the feeders will need to be moved. By 12.30pm the rain and wind had moved in so could sit and watch Football Focus and now settled down for the Rugby!!!
